The Institute's Focus

THE PRIMARY INTENT of the Institute is to identify or discover molecules that act specifically to initiate healing in humans or animals. We are primarily interested in patients suffering from chronic diseases which, to us, reflect disregulation of the immune, nervous, or endocrine systems, or disregulation at the individual cell level. Those therapeutic agents we are evaluating, therefore, are intended to induce specific cells to carry out their normal function.

This can be done several ways. For example:

  • Our work with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) has shown that hCG downregulates bcl2 in leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome patients. The consequence is that malignant cells become detransformed and experience apoptosis or normal cell death.
  • In a different manner, we use detoxified streptolysin (SLO) for the treatment of scars, both internal and external. SLO induces collagenase production which in turn breaks down collagen and allows healing without scar formation, or allows the breaking down of old scars and replacement by healthy, vital tissue.
In addition to those listed in Current Projects, our research is now focused on several pilot studies ranging from reversing dementia of the Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or alcohol-induced types to stimulating skeletal and connective tissue growth in young horses so they will develop with no aberrations that would compromise their ability to perform.

There remain many other disorders in humans and their companion animals that cry out for this kind of safe, efficacious therapy, and those are targets for present and future work.

Our track record over the last two decades—as represented by patents, peer-reviewed journal articles, and clinical trials—shows our success in identifying, characterizing, and bringing to utilization these types of molecules.
