John McMichael, Ph.D.
President and Chief Scientific Officer, and Director

Dr. McMichael is President, Chief Scientific Officer, and founder of the Institute. In 1993, he also founded Milkhaus Laboratory, Inc. (MLI), and served as President from MLI’s inception through September 2000. Prior to this, he participated in a variety of research and academic capacities. From 1991 to 1992 he was Vice President of Molecular Rx, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on products for managing inflammatory responses. Before this, Dr. McMichael was engaged in independent research and served as general manager of ImmunoTherapeutics, a proprietorship focused on developing new therapeutic products. During his tenure at ImmunoTherapeutics, Dr. McMichael licensed a veterinary anti-inflammatory product to Eudomonics, Inc., which commercialized and sells the product, principally to owners of athletic animals. From 1975 through 1986, Dr. McMichael was Assistant Professor, then Associate Professor, and for the last four years, Professor of Biology and Health Sciences at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. His other academic appointments include The Wistar Institute (1973-74) and SUNY-Cobleskill (1988 to the present). Dr. McMichael is cited as an inventor on more than 100 domestic and foreign patents. Dr. McMichael received his B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Maine and his Ph.D. from Oregon State University in Immunology and Virology.

John S. Glass
Business Director
Before his appointment as Business Director for the Institute, Mr. Glass served as Vice President of Business Development for MLI as well as heading its veterinary products division. Prior to joining MLI, he was employed first by Polaroid Corporation as an R&D and engineering manager, and then by Millipore Corporation where he was at various times Marketing Manager, Director of Investor Relations, President of the BioSearch Division, and Vice President of Millicorp, the Company’s venture capital subsidiary. He was a co-founder and director of Glyko Biomedical, a publicly held Canadian company and a co-founder of BioMarin, a publicly held U.S. pharmaceutical company. Mr. Glass is a former member of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute IRB and is currently a member of the IRB of Boston University School of Medicine. He is a director of Li Medical Technologies and Fifield Corporation, both private companies. Mr. Glass received his A.B. in science, engineering, and business from Union College, and his M.S. in Business Management from the Sloan School of Management of MIT.

Lloyd R. Saberski, M.D.
Medical Director
Lloyd R. Saberski M.D. completed his medical training at New York Medical College in 1982, followed by Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology Residencies at the Albany Medical College, Albany, NY. Board Certification was granted in both specialties in 1985 and 1988, respectively. Subsequent completion of a Pain Management Fellowship at Albany Medical College in 1988 was followed by a one-year appointment to the Anesthesiology faculty with primary commitment to the Albany Center for Pain Management. In 1989, Dr. Saberski joined the Yale faculty and the Yale Center for Pain Management. He founded the Yale University Fellowship in Pain Management and served as its director from inception until 1998. In 1991, he was appointed Clinical Director and in 1997 Medical Director of the Center. In 1998, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and became the first Yale faculty ever promoted to the rank of Associate Professor from achievements in the fields of Chronic Pain Management. In 1999, Dr Saberski opened a private practice privileged at Yale New Haven and St Raphael's Hospitals, dedicated to management of chronic painful disorders. Dr. Saberski, medical leader for the development team on spinal canal endoscopy, is recognized internationally for his contributions in that field of specialty. Dr. Saberski is the editor-in-chief of Pain Clinic. He is author of over 100 manuscripts, textbook chapters, papers, and lectures. He also serves as advisor to numerous agencies and panels and lectures frequently on topics in pain management, especially new technologies.
